Last night was the final game of the season and we played KWSN - a team that beat us earlier in the season. Of course they had to cheat a little to do it...
Anyway - the BJs got even last night with a nice 4-2 victory. That win made us 5-3 for the season which is pretty good considering the slow start we got. It's too bad we can't play in the tournament - I'm guessing we could place 1st or 2nd (like we always do!)
Back to last night's game - everyone played great. Special kudos go to Molly for some HUGE catches and plays at first base and Eric for a ton of great plays - I think he's getting pretty comfortable playing pitcher. Seriously, though - I think everyone will agree he kicked some serious ass last night. Way to go, Eric!
We also have a new award to hand-out this week - the dumbass mistake award. Dave & Craig both receive one of these. Dave didn't finish a run to 1st base because he thought there were 3 outs when there was only 2. 3 seconds later, however, there was 3 outs :-). Craig kicked 3 foul balls resulting in an out. Good thing they both played solid the rest of the time. No one harassed them too much.
That's pretty much the wrap-up. Does anyone have anything to add? Go for it!
Thanks for another great kickball season. Sign me up for next year! Oh, and don't foget the party coming up Saturday September 20th. I'll post more details when I get them...but hardcore players will want to stock up on beer and schedule the entire day for drinking.

September 3rd Game Summary
There's only one word to describe last night's game - TOTAL DOMINATION. Ok...technically that's two words - but seriously - we really put it to the Michael Bolton Kickball Experts. Does anyone know the final score? Not that it matters...we beat them...by a lot.
All the BJs played well. The guys kept quite a few kicks on the ground and someone had another grand slam. Was that Scott?
Our "bunt machines" did great, too. Here's Sarah running it out after one of her signature 12" bunts.
Here's a few more photos...

Top to Bottom: Lindsey with a great bunt. Mark showing the ball who's boss. Captain BJ kicking that grand slam I mentioned...I think.
Eric was pitching again last night and redeemed himself pretty well. He showed a lot of hustle and made some really good plays. In fact, some of the BJs were so thrilled they looked kind of like this:
Well - next week is going to be tough. We play KWSN...the team we lost to week #1. We really don't like them much and would like to get even.
We'll see you all on field #7 @ 7:15...or before. Sounds like Scott & I will be umping the 6:15 game, so come early to provide reinforcements.

August 27th Game Summary
Last night's game was AWESOME! The Big Johnson's DOMINTATED the Lite Kickers 12-7. It was kind of a gray, dreary, misty evening for kickball...but that didn't dampen the spirits of the BJ players.
Everyone had a great night. The outfield was particularly busy and Sarah, Mark, Jesse and Lindsey were grabbing everything kicked their way. A couple of them were great fingertip catches. You guys rock!
Offensively the BJs were great, too. The best of which was a spectacular grand slam by Craig! F 'n A Cotton, F 'n A!
Finally, veteran Big Johnson Jesse came out of retirement and stepped-in as a last minute sub. This guy always shows-up with his game...and last night was no exception. Solid fielding, consistent kicking and silos of PBR. What more can you ask of a BJ teammate? Thanks for comin' out Jess - it was great havin' you...

Since we were having so much fun, we decided to hang out and heckle our favorite team Balls of Glory. They were short a girl and Sarah was nice enough to help 'em out. She gave the Balls of Glory girls a lesson in bunting and also had some great catches in the outfield. I'd say they couldn't have won the game without her! Two games in one night - you're a trooper, Sarah!
I don't know about the rest of my teammates....but after last night I can't wait for next week's game. Speaking of...we finally get to play the best-named team in our league - the Michael Bolton Kickball Experts. You gotta love those pink shirts! They've umped our games 2 or 3 times and always do a really good job - now we'll see if they can play.
See you all next week at 6:15 on field 7.

August 20th Game Summary
Last night's game was a barn-burner for sure! Not meaning to re-quote myself...but it was a back and forth, knock-down, drag-out battle! But, as I've said before, there can be only one winner...and last night that winner was the Big Johnsons!
Team Ramrod stuck it to us several innings - they were tough...but it was just our night. Final score was 9-8. This reporter drank a few extra beers last night, so he can't remember any specific game highlights...everyone played really solid. Good kicks, bunts, catches, etc... So everyone gets a pat on the back. Yes, even you Eric ;-) (Eric was filling in for Michelle as our pitcher...and was a little nervous.). He made some good plays, though. It's OK Eric...just bring the sticky gloves next week...
A quick thanks to the Michael Bolton Kickball Experts who umped our game. They did a pretty good job. And the pink shirts...c'mon, you gotta love that! I can't wait to play those guys. Despite their name, they look like a pretty tough team.

Here's Craig making a toast to the sweet, sweet taste of victory (and, perhaps, to the crisp, refreshing, inebriating flavor of beer). Beer - the official beverage of Big Johnson kickball.
See you all next week on field #8 at 6:15. We'll be taking on the Lite Kickers...sounds like they might be a little light in their loafers. Maybe it'll be an easy "w"! See you there...
Update on the Amber Alert - I think my chair is gone for good. Glad someone else is enjoying it.

Amber Alert!!!
I left my chair at the field Wednesday night! It's black, red and white. Did anyone pick it up?

August 13th Game Summary
Well - the story remains the same for this week. It was another tight game, but again the Big Johnson's are showing they're johnsons aren't quite as big as last year.
It was a good game - everyone was kicking better. In fact, the other team - Balls of Glory - was amazed by how Sarah has mastered the art of bunting. It's truly a thing of beauty - it goes out in front of the plate about a foot and stops. Trust me - you've never seen anything like it!
The BJs also played well in the field. Eric and Lindsey were once again really solid in the outfield and Michelle, Scott, Craig & Dave were "on the ball" (no pun intended) in the infield...although it took a couple innings for Dave to recover from his spill at first base (still a little sore as I write this).
Anywhoo - we lost...but played well.
See you all next week - Field #8 - 6:15. We play Team Ramrod. Is it me or are all these team names a little...shall we say...."suggestive?"
Discuss....

August 6th Game Summary
Last night was a back and forth, knock-down, drag-out extra inning battle! As they say, in the end there can be only one winner...and last night, unfortunately, the Moose Horns proved that their horns were bigger than our Big Johnsons.
The Big Johnsons struggled with kicking a little...sending most kicks in the air to a competent Moose Horn fielder. Even the girls had trouble bunting because their catcher was VERY quick and could throw them out at first.
Defensively we were really good. Kudos to Lindsey for 3 HUGE (although not entirely graceful) catches in right field. Those guys thought they could pick on her, and learned the hard way that she is not to be messed with! Eric also came up with a couple big catches, too. One of them blind - looking directly into the sun! Michelle, Scott, Molly, Craig and Dave all had good catches / plays in the infield. Keep up the good work guys!
Next week will be a real phallic match-up - we'll find out which is bigger - Balls of Glory's balls...or our Big Johnsons. I, for one, can't wait!
See you there - field #8 - 7:15. Hopefully we won't be looking directly into the sun like we did last night on field #7.

July 30th Game Summary
The sun wasn't the only thing heating-up up the fields last night - the BJs were ON FIRE!
We played Kickin Balls-n-Takin' Names - who kinda seemed like an amateur team (except the one inning they scored 8 runs). Anyway, we decided to show 'em a thing or two about playing kickball, so we had a couple real nice double plays and a couple other "bump-set" catches (that's what I call them anyway). Those are when one player tries to catch the ball and ends-up missing BUT bumps it up into the air so a different player can get to it and catch it. Kinda like volleyball.
Kudos to Molly, Scott, Craig and Michelle for some great plays in the infield - you guys ROCK!
Also just a quick thanks to our umps from Balls of Glory. Those guys know how to ump a kickball game!
Oh yeah...we won by the way. 11-8. Way to go BJs!
See you next week @ 7:15, field #7 again. Looks like we play "The Moose Horns." Hmmm...we'll let that name speak for itself...

July 23rd Game Summary
Well...it was a cold, windy, cloudy, rainy evening at the fields last night, and the Big Johnsons showed that they had a little rust to shake off their game.
We played another veteran team, KWSN. They definitely knew what they were doing. They struck first, but we fought back right away. It was a back and forth battle 'til the end when they kicked 3 girls back to back to load the bases for a guy. For those of you who don't know - that's against the rules.
Anywhoo - that was enough to get them the winning run. So the BJs started off the season with a heartbreaking loss, but we'll shake it off for next week. I pity the team we play next week...for they shall certainly be subject to our full kickball-esque wrath! (BTW, it looks like we'll play Kickin Balls-n-Takin' Names next week.)

Giddy 'up Johnsons!
It's that time of year already? Where did the last 10 months go? Who cares - it's time to play KICKBALL!
We kicked-off pre-season with some 12oz. curls at Billy Frogs (our sponsor) last night. Coach Craig handed-out schedules (if you need one, click on the "2008 Season Schedule" link in the right column...yeah, right over there ->->) and went over the roster.
We welcomed Lindsey's sister Amy to the team and Captain "Big" Johnson himself told us about some "Erik guy" that is joining us full-time this season to replace Jesse who retired after last season (we'll miss you Jess!). Continuing with sad news....Lori blew-out her knee playing soccer, so she won't be able to play this season. She promised to be there every game to cheer us on, though!
The rest of the regulars are back - Mark, Sarah, Craig, Julie, Lindsey, Molly, Scott, Steve, Michelle and Dave. We have a new sub, Bryan who will be filling-in when necessary.
Craig & Julie were instructed to watch Dodgeball ASAP as they missed all the stupid references and quotes. When they said "Do we have to?" The response was "...do I have to drink my own urine?" "Probably not." (If you don't get it - WATCH DODGEBALL NOW!).
Alright - enough. Our first game is next Wednesday, July 23rd at 6:15 field #8 at the McCart fields. Yup - McCart - back where it all began :-)
See you there....and don't forget to bring your game with you!
